Out & About
Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city is renowned for its history, architecture and cultural festival. It is also home to the nation's recently established Parliament.
The city centre is dominated by the magnificent Edinburgh Castle (designated a world Heritage Site by UNESCO) which stands at the head of the Old Town perched high on its volcanic rock looking down on a city where medieval lanes and elegant, sweeping terraces hold over ten centuries of history, mystery and tradition.
Tourists come from all over the world to visit the castle alone, and yet Edinburgh is also a modern, dynamic city with a constant buzz as festivals attract world leading performers, galleries display cutting-edge art, and the huge choice of bars, restaurants and clubs create a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere.
There is so much to see and do in and around Edinburgh, that just one visit is not sufficient. In the city a cocktail of ghost tours, whisky tasting, open top bus tours, museums, art galleries, theatres, international restaurants, clubs, pubs, ceilidh dancing, are just a few of the things to while away the day.
Both inside the city of Edinburgh and around its outskirts, lie the options of golf courses, leisure complex, parks, horse riding, and visitor attractions galore - it is impossible to be bored when visiting Edinburgh at any time of the year.
